What you need to know before you start landscaping your balcony, how to choose flowers and what furniture is best - you will learn about all this from our article.
Balconies in our apartments have long ceased to be a place for dumping unnecessary things, which, like a suitcase without a handle, are a pity to throw away, but are difficult to carry. Their owners begin to evaluate the merits of an additional two or even six square meters and arrange the most unexpected corners there. For example, a green garden.
It seems that today everyone has glazed loggias. And, since most of the year the climate in our latitudes is uncomfortable, it is logical to assume that there really is a need for this. After all, plants, if you plant them on the balcony, will simply die from the cold in the fall.
But in Europe, a rather interesting solution is practiced - home gardens on open balconies. A small loggia with a small table and a beautiful chair, decorated with living vegetation that wraps around the railings, looks very peaceful. In addition, in the summer it will be especially pleasant to have breakfast, drink coffee and breathe fresh air.
This option will be more appropriate if your balcony overlooks a quiet, cozy courtyard with lots of vegetation or a beautiful park. Neighborhood with large enterprises or busy roads implies gas pollution, noise and dust - in this case it is better to glaze the loggia.
So, if the decision has already been made and you know for sure that you want to create a cozy green corner on your balcony, here are some ideas.
It's worth starting with the selection of plants. There are two types of landscaping: vertical and horizontal. If the horizontal has been known for a long time and everything is clear with it (flowers are located on horizontal levels: on shelves, on the floor, on tables), then the vertical is just beginning to gain popularity. In this case, flowers are placed on panels, shelves, racks that are attached to the wall - a kind of composition of living plants is obtained.
Regardless of the method of placing flowers, you need to remember that you should not buy violets or any other plants that require delicate care for the balcony. But palm trees, climbing plants and ficus trees are ideal.
If you arrange a green corner on the balcony, then you will want to relax there as well. Therefore, you need to choose the right furniture. So, you shouldn't shove an old chair or a huge sofa onto a small balcony. And not because they will block the entire space. They just don't belong there. It's better to place a small table on transparent legs (make a folding tabletop) and one or two very light chairs.
Another option for balcony furniture is pallets. You can buy them for free or for a small fee at a hardware store. They have a simple design, but it allows you to make sofas, tables, and even shelves. Complement all this with a light mattress and beautiful textiles - and you will get original and quite comfortable furniture.
If you are not going to work on the balcony at night, then there is no need to conduct electricity there. And to while away the summer evenings, hanging garlands or battery-powered lamps are perfect. They will be both cozy and light enough.
